Korean Interpretations

The frequency of multilingual meetings and events continues to increase as businesses and organizations add employees, customers, and partners around the world. Meetings and events are more engaging and inclusive when everyone speaks the same language, but that is not always possible. Human interpreters and translators are an option, but the high cost and logistical complexity limits their use to big budget events and organizations.

Wordly solves the multilingual collaboration problem with a proven, high quality, highly scalable AI-powered interpretation platform which provides simultaneous interpretation into Korean and dozens of other languages. Speakers and attendees each select their preferred language at the start of the session - selecting from live translated captions or audio - and using their mobile phone, tablet, or computer. Offering translation services is a great way to increase engagement, productivity, and inclusivity.

Korean Language History

What is the History of the Korean language?
The Korean language, part of the Koreanic language family, traces its roots back to Proto-Koreanic, the shared ancestor of all Koreanic languages. It evolved over millennia, shaped by historical, cultural, and political influences in the regions of modern-day Korea and beyond.

  • Old Korean (1st century BCE–10th century CE): The earliest form of Korean, Old Korean, began to emerge during the Three Kingdoms Period. It was influenced by contact with neighboring Chinese and Altaic languages. The adoption of Chinese characters marked the first written records of Korean. Early linguistic features included distinct regional dialects linked to the kingdoms of Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla.
  • Middle Korean (10th–16th century): Middle Korean developed during the Goryeo and early Joseon dynasties. This period saw significant linguistic and cultural developments. The creation of Hangul, the Korean alphabet, by King Sejong the Great in 1443 was a watershed moment in the language's history. Hangul democratized literacy, allowing everyone to learn and write Korean.
  • Late Middle Korean (16th–19th century): During the late Joseon dynasty, Korean underwent further phonological and grammatical changes. The widespread use of Hangul in popular literature, alongside continued use of Hanja in scholarly texts, created a bilingual written tradition. The language began to solidify into a more standardized form, influenced by political stability and increased literacy among the general population.
  • Modern Korean (20th century–Present): The 20th century brought profound changes to Korean. Japanese colonization imposed Japanese language and script on Korea, but resistance efforts kept Korean alive as a marker of national identity. Today, Korean is spoken by over 80 million people worldwide, with Hangul celebrated as one of the world's most scientifically designed writing systems. Korean continues to evolve, embracing technological innovation and globalization while maintaining its cultural heritage.
